VA Senator Glen Sturtevant: “The Board of Visitors needs to act now.”

Virginia State Senator Glen Sturtevant isn’t buying UVA’s attempts to sidestep accountability. After The Jefferson Council exposed the school’s renamed but still racially segregated graduation ceremonies, Sturtevant responded and called out the university’s hollow compliance with federal law.

“They’ve walked back the ban on trans procedures for minors. They’re slow-walking the elimination of DEI,” he said. “The Board of Visitors needs to act now.”

For Sturtevant, UVA’s habit of rebranding rather than reforming is wearing thin. His message is clear: only the Board of Visitors has the power—and responsibility—to make the changes UVA needs.
