UVA Faculty Senate Passes DEI Resolution Amid Dismantling Orders, Gains National Attention

In a defiant move against mounting political and institutional pressure, the University of Virginia’s Faculty Senate passed a resolution in support of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)—even as federal and state leaders, along with the UVA Board of Visitors, push forward with dismantling the university’s central DEI office.

Faculty Senate Chair James Lambert underscored the significance of the moment, noting that the Senate’s action has drawn widespread media attention:

“The coverage in the news media has been abundant,” he said, referencing national and international reporting.
“One of the mutual assistance cooperation pacts of Big Ten Senates cited our own Senate resolution as a basis for that attempt and organization.”

He added that CBS News is among the outlets that have recently covered the Faculty Senate’s efforts.
